About Cockshutt

The village has grown from a small agricultural region in the Crosemere area to a ribbon development along the Chester to Shrewsbury Stage coaching route in the late 1820’s. This form of transport led to the refurbishment of some farms and the building of Coaching Inns. At one time the village had 8 pubs dotted around for all the farm labourers working in the area.

As farming methods change so has the village from a farming community to a dormitory one, as jobs on the farms disappeared and no other work replaced them, people commute all over Shropshire, Wrexham and further afield.
